Our trip was amazing… beyond expectation!  I have included a ‘selfie’ of us at each town we stopped at 🙂

The Douro Valley was charmingly quaint, very peaceful, and beautiful.  Our Douro Valley selfie is at a quinta over looking the valleys and mountains full of grapevines.  Your recommendation of the Casa do Visconde was spot on!  Our room was amazing, the staff beyond accommodating, and the views breathtaking.  Our only bummer about the Douro Valley was that it was a bit difficult getting reservations to some of the wineries (quintas) for port tastings and tours.

Porto was my favorite stop and I really wish we had spent more time there.  Our Porto selfie is taken from the gondola going across the city with the famous Louis I bridge in the background (same architect as the Eiffel Tower).  This was my first trip to Europe and it had the old world charm mixed with modernism that I was so hoping to see.  The Yeatman Hotel was hands down the nicest hotel of not only our trip, but that we have ever been to.  Porto is the site of port wine storage after barreling, so we were able to do several port tastings at their tasting locations.

Lisbon was awesome but the Lapa Palace was just ok… Our hotel assessment was almost surely influenced by the fact that we had just come from the Yeatman.  Our Lisbon selfie is of us in front of a cable car.  We had a great time exploring the city and my husband especially loved the cable cars.

A highlight of the trip was a day trip from Lisbon to Sentra.  This is the photo of us at a castle.  Sentra is the where the Portuguese royalty summered and they had an amazingly well-preserved and restored castle to tour.  Sentra was quiet, quaint but fancy, and a great break from the hubbub of Lisbon. I am a professional equestrian (horse instructor and trainer) and the castle had a great riding program that allowed you to ride around the castle gardens.  It was extremely well done and classy on very nice horses.  You departed from a fully restored castle carriage house.
